Hildegard von Bingen

Born: 1098 at Brockelhiem on the Nahe
Died: September 17, 1179
Religion: Catholic

Hildegard von Bingen was the youngest of 10 children. Her parents promised her to the service of God. She was taught to read and sing Latin psalms. At a young age she had seen many visions, but had kept the to herself. Her family was noble and wealthy. She was a German women ahead of her time. She was a musician, scientist, and visionest. She was attached to tradition and her duties to her church. She was best known as a medieval prophet, healer and composer. She wrote theological, botanical, and medical texts. She also wrote liturgical songs, poems and the first morality play, which influenced morality plays in the modern world. She had also created and alternative alphabet. It was a form of medieval Latin. She died a holy death and was buried in the church of Rupertsburg. She left behind over 100 letters, 72 songs, 70 poems, and 9 books. Her research can be found in many modern day things, like books, songs, poems, plays, and scientific methods.
